Rapid Prototyping & Functional Prototypes

Rapid prototyping is often associated with a process which takes a virtual design from CAD modeling software and ultimately transforms it into a replica of your idea. Reading data from a 3D CAD data file, the prototyping machine lays down layers of liquid, powder or sheet material, building up a model of your product from a series of cross sections. The result of this process is a 3D physical functional prototype model that corresponds with the 3D CAD model it was built from.

At Beartown, we practice Rapid Prototyping as a process, whereby we rapidly provide the best solution to meet your prototype needs. Our prototyping/model making team brings product designs to life! Need sketch models for an in-house design presentation? Beartown can quickly and inexpensively turn your design concepts into three-dimensional realistic functional prototypes. If your need is for realistic models, our exceptional finished models will provide a powerful impact. Whether in machining plastic, polished acrylic, aluminum or some other material, we will materialize your concepts.

Here’s an example of “rapid prototyping” the Beartown way… from customer sketch to finished prototype in 3 days!

To accomplish prototypes rapidly, we use the following:

          • Haas 3, 4, and 5-axis milling centers and lathe
          • Objet 3D Printer
          • Large Format Kern HSE 400w Laser (100” x 50” table)
          • 3D Scanning (to support unknown interface geometries)
          • Paint systems and techniques
          • Prototype casting materials such as urethanes and silicones
          • Advanced 3D CAD tools
