Reverse Engineering, 3D Scanning Services & Inspection:

3D Scanning

We utilize an ATOS 3D white light scanning system for our reverse engineering and inspection projects for many of the industries we currently serve. This technology really helps in:

          • Archiving older shapes
          • Digitally capturing hand-sculpted and/or fabricated parts
          • Quality Control Inspections
          • Compare as built to as designed via color deviation mapping.
          • Digital Assembly (assess form, fit, and function)

Capturing the exact physical form of your part or shape will maintain design intent and record subtle and complex geometry that often eludes traditional measuring processes. This technology can drastically reduce the time it takes to create data and save resources in your product development process, as well as aid in your Quality Assurance program.

And we are mobile with this technology! We can perform these processes at your site, or in our new (2008) dedicated scanning studio, depending upon project parameters (part size and location).

Reverse Engineering

Do you have a part, model or sculpture for which you need to quickly and accurately generate 3D CAD data? The Beartown team leverages our ATOS II 3D Digitizing System and Advanced CAD Software tools to provide production ready 3D scanning CAD data directly from physical objects. Give us your model or parts, and we will capture the shape in a point cloud, then convert this cloud to a triangulated mesh. From the mesh we will construct surface patches that will be formed into solid geometry. When completed, we can further assist you by revising the data or creating a rapid prototype for evaluation. Do you already have scan data? Just send us your files and we will do the rest, on time and on budget.

Impeller Project
An example of Reverse Engineering activity,
when you have no CAD data for a part and need to remake the part or modify the part.

Captured scan data from original part. Only partial object scan needed due to repeating element within part. Completed 3D CAD data per captured scan data. At this point, the part can be remade or revised for a new design. Prototype made from 3D CAD data for analysis and part fit.
